The expectations are there for the Northern Illinois Huskies in 2010.

Media covering the Mid-American Conference have selected the Huskies as the favorite to win the MAC West Division championship this season, in voting tabulated during the conference’s football media day.

NIU earned 15 of 20 first-place votes to finish ahead of defending conference champion Central Michigan.

The Huskies, who went 7-6 overall last season and 5-3 in conference action, open the season with road games in four of their first five outings. The schedule begins with a trip to Iowa State. Following a home game with North Dakota, NIU heads to Illinois and Minnesota before opening the conference slate Oct. 2 at Akron.

A highlight of the second-half schedule is a visit from Central Michigan on Oct. 23, in what could be a showdown for supremacy in the MAC West.
